SMALL GROUPS AND BIBLE STUDY MINISTRIES
At Bridgeport United Methodist Church, small groups are one of the primary ways we grow in faith, build meaningful relationships, and learn how to live out the love of Christ together. Whether you are looking for Bible study, prayer, discussion, or encouragement for everyday life, there is a place for you here.

Adult Bible Studies & Discussion Groups
Bread of Life Sunday School Class
Sundays | 9:30 AM | Library (Education Building)
Contact: Rev. Jim Lang
The Bread of Life Sunday School Class invites adults to grow in faith and deepen their relationship with God through thoughtful study of Scripture and meaningful conversation. Each week, the class explores carefully prepared lessons that provide biblical background, theological insight, and practical application for daily living. More than simply learning about the Bible, participants are encouraged to reflect together on how God’s Word shapes their faith, decisions, and discipleship. This is a welcoming, discussion-oriented group where Scripture is taken seriously and lived faithfully.
Faith, Family, and Friends
Sundays | 9:30 AM | Parlor
Contact: Jenny Murray
Faith, Family, and Friends is a welcoming, discussion-based Sunday morning class centered on open conversation, shared learning, and practical faith. This multi-generational group brings together people from a variety of backgrounds to explore Scripture and spiritual topics in a relaxed, coffee-friendly setting. Rather than testing biblical knowledge, the class focuses on listening well, learning from one another, and discovering how biblical truths can be lived out in daily life—at home, in relationships, and in the wider community. All are welcome, whether you are new to Bible study or have been walking in faith for many years.
L.I.F.E. (Living in Faith Everyday)
Tuesdays | 7:30 PM | Johnson Avenue Campus
Contact: Rick Curtis
L.I.F.E. is a small group focused on connection, encouragement, and applying faith to real-life questions. Meeting in a welcoming and conversational setting, this group creates space for honest discussion about where faith intersects with daily challenges, doubts, and decisions. Whether you’re exploring faith for the first time, wrestling with big questions, or simply seeking community, L.I.F.E. offers a supportive environment to grow together and discover what it means to live out faith every day.
Lectionary Class
Thursdays | 10:00 AM | Library (Education Building)
Contact: Rev. Jim Lang
The Lectionary Class invites participants to engage deeply with Scripture through the rhythm of the church year. Following the Revised Common Lectionary—a three-year cycle of biblical readings shared by churches around the world—the class explores the weekly Scriptures that shape Christian worship. Together, participants reflect on the meaning of the texts, cultivate a life of prayer, and grow in a more intentional relationship with God. This class is well-suited for those who value thoughtful study, shared reflection, and connecting Scripture with the wider life of the church.
Thursday Evening Bible Study
Thursdays | 7:00 PM | Intermediate Chapel (Sanctuary Overflow Area)
Contact: Rev. Dr. Matthew Paugh
The Thursday Evening Bible Study with Pastor Matthew offers an in-depth, verse-by-verse exploration of Scripture, engaging both the historical context of the text and its meaning for faithful living today. Led in a welcoming and accessible format, this study invites participants to dig deeply into the Bible while asking thoughtful questions about theology, discipleship, and everyday life. Whether you are new to Bible study or eager to go deeper, this study provides a supportive space for learning, reflection, and conversation.
Current Study: Beginning January 29, the group is studying the Book of Acts—exploring how the early church was formed, challenged, and sent into the world, and what this Spirit-led story means for the church today.
