NEW HERE?

You’re Welcome Here

Walking into a church for the first time can feel uncertain. You may be wondering what to expect, where to go, or whether you’ll truly feel at home.

At Bridgeport United Methodist Church, we want you to know this first and foremost: you are welcome here.

You don’t need to have everything figured out. You don’t need to believe all the “right” things. You don’t need to look or act a certain way. Whether you are new to the area, exploring faith for the first time, returning after a long time away, or simply looking for a place to belong, you are welcome just as you are.

We are a church rooted in God’s grace—seeking to grow in faith, love, and hope together. When you come, you’ll find real people, honest worship, and a community learning how to follow Jesus in everyday life.

What to Expect

When you arrive at Bridgeport United Methodist Church, we hope you’ll experience a sense of welcome and ease.

A Warm, Come-As-You-Are Atmosphere

You’ll find people dressed in a variety of ways—from casual to more traditional. There is no dress code here. Come as you are.

Worship That Is Thoughtful and Grounded

Our services include Scripture, prayer, music, and a message rooted in the Christian faith and connected to everyday life. You don’t need to know when to stand or what to say—simply participate as you feel comfortable.

Music That Reflects Our Community

Worship at Bridgeport UMC includes music that supports congregational singing and reflection. Music is an important part of our life together, and you’ll often hear the voices of our choirs and musicians leading us in worship. Each weekly service incorporates a different worship style, while sharing the same focus on Scripture, prayer, and thoughtful worship.

A Community of Real People

We are not a perfect church. We are people of different ages, backgrounds, and life experiences—learning to follow Jesus together with humility, grace, and hope.

No Pressure

You will not be singled out or asked to do anything that makes you uncomfortable. Whether this is your first visit or your first step back in a long time, you are free to engage at your own pace.

A Note About Communion

Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month and on other significant days in the Church year. At the Johnson Avenue campus, Communion is offered each week. All are welcome to the Lord’s Table.

Additional Worship Opportunities

Bridgeport UMC also offers a lay-led worship service at Maplewood Assisted Living, providing hymns, Scripture, prayer, and a message in a residential setting. This service is part of our ongoing ministry of care and outreach.

Wherever and whenever you join us, you can expect a warm welcome and thoughtful worship.

Children, Youth, and Families

Children and youth are an important part of the life of Bridgeport United Methodist Church, and families are always welcome in worship.

On Sunday mornings at 10:45, children may worship with their families or participate in age-appropriate opportunities designed to help them grow in faith in ways that are engaging and meaningful. On Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings at 8:30, nursery care is available for children 5 years old and younger.

Youth are encouraged to participate fully in worship and are also invited into learning, service, and fellowship throughout the week.

We strive to create environments that are safe, welcoming, and nurturing, where young people are known by name and supported by caring adults. All volunteers who work with children and youth follow our Safe Sanctuaries policies.

If you are visiting for the first time and have questions about what’s available for your child or teenager, our ushers, staff, or volunteers will be glad to help you find your way. We’re here to walk with you as you find what fits best for your family. You are also welcome to visit our Children & Youth page to learn more about specific programs and ministries. If you would like more information about our Preschool or Afterschool programs, please visit our Preschool & Afterschool Programs page.
