MEMBERSHIP AND NEXT STEPS

At Bridgeport United Methodist Church, membership is not about having everything figured out—it is about responding to God’s grace and choosing to grow in faith together. We believe that discipleship is lived in community, where worship, learning, service, and care shape us over time.

Whether you are new to the church, returning after time away, or exploring faith for the first time, we invite you to take your next steps at a pace that feels right for you. There are many ways to belong, serve, and grow as part of the life of this congregation.

Belonging starts with a conversation.

What Membership Means at BUMC

Membership at Bridgeport United Methodist Church is a commitment to grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ within a community shaped by worship, learning, service, and care. It is a way of affirming that faith is lived best in relationship—with God and with one another.

Members participate in the life of the church through regular worship, shared learning, and acts of service, seeking to love God and neighbor with faithfulness and humility. Membership is not about perfection, but about a willingness to walk together in grace, supporting one another through all seasons of life.

As part of the United Methodist Church, our understanding of membership reflects a shared commitment to prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness—ways we offer ourselves to God and to the life of the church. These commitments are lived out differently by each person, according to their gifts, circumstances, and season of life.

Exploring Membership

Exploring membership at Bridgeport United Methodist Church begins with conversation, not commitment. We recognize that people come to the church from many places and with many questions, and we welcome time for learning, reflection, and discernment.

Those who are interested in membership are invited to participate in opportunities to learn more about the life of the church, our beliefs, and our shared mission. This may include a membership class, small group setting, or conversation with a pastor—designed to help you ask questions, share your story, and discern what next steps might look like for you.

We trust that God works in each person’s life at the right pace, and we are glad to walk alongside you as you explore what it means to belong and grow within this community of faith.

Next Steps

There are many ways to take your next step at Bridgeport United Methodist Church, and no single path looks the same for everyone. Whether you are new to the church or discerning a deeper commitment, we invite you to begin where you feel most comfortable.

You might start by worshiping regularly, connecting through a small group or study, or finding a way to serve alongside others. Each of these practices helps us grow in faith and deepen our sense of belonging within the church community.

If you are interested in learning more about membership or would like help discerning your next step, we encourage you to reach out to a pastor or contact the Church Office at info@bridgeportumc.org. We would be glad to talk with you, answer questions, and walk alongside you as you continue your journey of faith.
