SERVING AND OUTREACH

Why We Serve

At Bridgeport United Methodist Church, serving others is a response to God’s grace at work in our lives. We believe that faith in Jesus Christ is not only something we confess with our words, but something we live out through love of neighbor.

As a Matthew 25 Church, we are committed to ministry with and for the least, the last, the lonely, and the left out. This commitment shapes how we understand discipleship, calling us to meet immediate needs, walk alongside those who are vulnerable, and work for a more just and compassionate community.

We serve not to earn God’s favor, but because we have already received it. Grounded in the Wesleyan tradition, we believe that love of God and love of neighbor belong together.

How We Serve

At Bridgeport United Methodist Church, serving others takes many forms. Our outreach ministries are shaped by a commitment to meet real needs, build meaningful relationships, and honor the dignity of every person.

Meeting Immediate Needs

We respond to basic and urgent needs in our community, including food insecurity, clothing, and essential household items. Through regular meal ministries, food distributions, and seasonal assistance efforts, we seek to offer practical help rooted in compassion and care.

Walking Alongside Individuals and Families

Beyond short-term assistance, we believe in ministry that listens, accompanies, and supports people over time. Through ministries focused on family advocacy, pastoral care, and community support, we strive to walk alongside neighbors facing hardship, transition, or crisis.

Serving with and for Our Neighbors

Our outreach is grounded in partnership—both within the congregation and with community organizations. We work alongside local agencies, schools, shelters, and service providers to strengthen the wider network of care in our region.

Living Out Faith Through Action

People of all ages participate in serving ministries at Bridgeport UMC. Children, youth, adults, and families serve together, learning that faith is not only something we believe, but something we practice—through generosity, hospitality, and love in action.
